What a weekend....I'm exhausted.......I started off on Saturday morning doing some house work......after spending about 30hrs quilting my quilt last week a lot of things were neglected.......anyway.....

I headed off to the Caloundra Quilt Show with some friends and we had a lovely time there......we were there so long that we virtually got kicked out........

And on Sunday Jens and I went out for a long relaxing breakfast at Maple 3 in Maleny with some friends and I then drove back into Caloundra to meet up with another groups of friends and spend some time doing Hostess Duty.......

Following are the photos of the Viewers Choice of the Quilts  and the Beside the Sea challenge......

This is Gail's quilt who got 3rd

Here is Lorraine with her Quilt who came in 2nd

And the winner is .....Debbie

Here is Debbie's beautiful quilt

There were so many beautiful quilts on display and apparently the votes were very close.......

The Challenge Quilts......

No 8 was the winner and it was Debbie again....I loved Debbie's challenge as well.....the detail was amazing.......a very talented lady.....

and No 31 came second.....

I don't know who made the one with the red bucket.....I voted for this one as I love the message that it is portraying......out of the bucket was the rubbish that has been found and collected from the beach.....

I hope you have enjoyed seeing the winning quilts from Caloundra......more photos tomorrow........

Hope everyone has a great day.....

Caloundra Quilt Show

Well it's that time of the year again when the Quilting groups are showing off their quilts........and this weekend it's the Caloundra Quilters.......the display is on at the CACA in North St Caloundra......I heard on Tuesday that they have 186 quilts to display........when I dropped my quilts off yesterday it was a little hectic there......but the group is well organized and very experienced in setting a show up........I hope you get a chance pop in and have a look........this year on the entry form you had to mark whether visitors are allowed to take photos of your quilt.....what a great idea......so I hope to be able to post some photos tomorrow......I decided to take a photo of my 3 quilts before taking them into Caloundra......so I folded the quilts and put them on the chair on the veranda of the studio and about to take some photos when Matilda decided that she also wanted to be in the photo......

Hello.....
I hope everyone has a great weekend........

Antique quilts......

On Thursday at Kim's shop a couple of ladies came in inquiring about getting a crazy patch quilt repaired.......of course both Kim and I said that Helen and her mother Jeannie would have to speak to Jenny Clouston who is the Queen of Crazy Patch ( http://sewsocrazy.blogspot.com.au/ ) on the Sunshine Coast.......anyway after chatting to Helen a little more we found out the the quilt was made in 1884 and belonged to her Grandmother Sylvia...... OMG....and has been in the family for a long time but they do not know the whole history......so we said not to do anything to the quilt and that they need to go to the Buderim Craft Cottage on the 23 July as there is a talk about antique quilts.....and before Helen left I got her phone number to keep in contact.....

So on Friday I made a cheeky phone call to Helen and asked if Jenny and I could go around to have a look on the weekend......so today we went and had a look......Jenny was about to cry when she saw the quilt because it is so beautiful.......we oohed and oh my goshed over it for nearly and hour.....and Helen and Jeannie said that we can take some photos.....and made morning tea for us as well.......how nice

here is Jenny and Helen

can you see the date

blocks that were not finished

They also had a patchwork quilt that we estimated was handmade in the 1920's......as I lifted this quilt up you could see through  the quilt and see the uneveness of the stretched out cotton balls that they used for the batting.......I loved this quilt as much as Jenny loved the crazy quilt............

The stars in this quilt were made from the scraps left over from making the men's shirts.....

Jenny and I had a lovely  morning looking at such beautiful quilts and spending time talking about the history of the family and their quilts......I hope you all also had a great day.....

Until next time.......

Cathy

PS....by the way Jenny  is due to have a book released on Crazy Patch soon.....through C&T Publishing

Hello out there in blogland.....it has been a while since I have posted anything on either of my blogs.......just had some time away from the computer and now have a new/second hand laptop......have been very busy working on a couple of quilts.....working in the yard and spending time with hubby.....going out to lunch or dinner and a movie........we also went to Brisbane to see Empire......what a fantastic show.....went to the Brisbane Art Gallery last week with friends from the Thursday class to see the V & A Quilts......what an experience to be able to see such amazing quilts......the workmanship is incredible ......I am hoping to go back in August to see the Ruth Stonely collection ....I had done a few class with Ruth in the 90's ......so it will lovely to see her work again....

I have written in earlier posts about doing my version of the Circle Game quilt by Jen Kingwell of  http://amitietextiles.blogspot.com.au/ .....( I hope the link works for you) ......well I have finished the top......and I am so happy with it......I am still unsure about what sort of quilting I am going to do on it......

I'm thinking I might quilt some circles in the border the same size as what has been appliqued and then echo them......but apart from that I don't know......it will come to me....

I enjoyed making this quilt so much that I have actually started another one.......in brighter fabrics.....not too often you want to make the same quilt pattern twice....

It feels good to be back blogging again......I am not a fantastic story teller or writer.....but I hope you enjoy what I post........

Until next time......
